During the summer season, the Tokyo International Forum hosted a series of super events. We had the Broadway musical "Big" (July 17-Aug. 29), brought back by popular demand after its success last year. Then there was David Copperfield's Super Illusion '99 "U!" with Audience Participation (Aug. 10-21). The Montreux Jazz Festival brought together some of the world's top musicians (Aug. 27-29). And much more. The large audiences these events attracted, including families with children in tow, made this a summer to remember.
"Big - The Musical"
* "It was very funny. The music was fun too, it made us feel like kids again. We've been fans of Miki Maya since her Takarazuka days, but her appeal this time was completely different to when she plays male roles." (Two women from Kyoto)
* "We saw it last year as well, but this time some parts were different and it was again very enjoyable." (Mother from Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture)
"There were a lot of children in it, and the music was fantastic." (One of her boys)
* "It was a story full of dreams, and I found it very moving. The children were good, too." "I'm a big fan of Miki Maya. But Toshiaki Karasawa looked great as well. And the children were all so cute. I particularly enjoyed the piano scene." "The level of the performances was high, and I enjoyed it a lot. I really hope it'll come back next year." (Group of 3 women from Tokyo)
David Copperfield "U!"
* "It was really weird when he made people disappear. We couldn't see how he did it. We felt as if we were the ones participating." (Couple from Koto Ward, Tokyo)
* "It's just amazing how he can pick 13 members of the audience at random and make them all disappear together. I was watching through opera glasses but still had no idea how he did it. I wanted to take part too!" (Couple from Tokyo - Woman)
"A great two hours packed with entertainment." (Man)
* "It was fantastic! It was amazing to see people flying and disappearing." (Child from Kumagaya, Saitama Prefecture)
"My children were calling out loud in excitement. It made this a summer holiday to remember." (Mother with 2 children)
