Another legendary performance in Hall A!
Buena Vista Social Club presentspresents
Ibrahim Ferrer, Ruben Gonzalez, & Omara Portuondo
The veteran Cuban musicians of the "Buena Vista Social Club" have started a global boom in Cuban music. After the Grammy Award winning CD and the hit documentary movie of the same name, concerts featuring the Club's three central members were held in Hall A on September 1st and 3rd. On both days, the venue was packed with eagerly waiting fans. There was a Cuban atmosphere in the lobby before the concert, with audience members enjoying Cuban sandwiches and Cuban "Mojito" cocktails specially ordered by TIF catering staff for the occasion. Under the waiting gaze of these keen Cuban music fans, three musicians, all over the age of 70, took the stage. The audiences were thrilled by their amazing singing ability, fine accompaniment, and a truly adult entertainment richly versed in the art of enjoying life. The hall resounded with hand clapping, gasps, laughter, cheers, and applause. And so, here in Hall A, was born another legendary concert that will be talked about for a long, long time.

Exquisitely refined quality
The Hermes 2000-2001 Autumn-Winter Collection
photoThe faint tones of a pipe organ. The lights go up on the catwalk. There, models attired in the new designs for autumn and winter stand in quiet elegance. Their consistently graceful air merges with the relaxing dark green of Hall B to accentuate the exquisitely refined quality of the garments. The Collection was shown on September 4th, with the heat of summer still lingering on. But for the combined audience of 1,600 guests, this was a foretaste of a gorgeous autumn to come. The relationship between Hermes and the Tokyo International Forum was triggered when the Corbeille Committee (representatives of 75 leading French brand companies) was held in Hall B as part of the "Year of France in Japan" in 1998. Jean Louis Dumas Hermes, President of Hermes International, who served as host for the event, said he was very impressed by the architectural design of the Tokyo International Forum. Since then, the TIF has been used for the company's collections each season.

A new fad among visitors to TIF
The "Double Sweep Echo" on Dragon Bridge
photoThe glass-lined corridor connecting the 1st Floor Basement, the Glass Building, and the Halls of the Tokyo International Forum is now the subject of some topical interest. It's all because of a strange phenomenon called the "Double Sweep Echo". If you clap your hands inside the corridor, a strange whooping noise starts to reverberate around it. This phenomenon, observed for the first time in the world by an NTT researcher, is called the "Double Sweep Echo", because it produces a more complex reverberation than the "Sweep Echo" at Yakushi Temple in the Toshogu Shrine, Nikko. With major coverage in the media and elsewhere, the phenomenon has already been confirmed by around 5,000 visitors so far. The corridor has been dubbed "Dragon Bridge" after Naki-Ryu (literally "Roaring Dragon"), the Japanese name for the phenomenon. This "Double Sweep Echo" is one of the strangest natural phenomena in the world. Go and experience it for yourself next time you visit the Tokyo International Forum.
