The 5th Tokyo Performing Arts Market
On August 3rd and 4th, the 5th Performing Arts Market was held in the whole of D Block (Hall D, D-501 Conference Room, Audio-Visual Hall, and elsewhere) as well as the Glass Hall Building 4F Conference Rooms, linked to D Block by a bridge. Thus, the event made multi-dimensional and efficient use of the Tokyo International Forum facilities. The Performing Arts Market has been held regularly in the Tokyo International Forum since 1997. Its purpose is to introduce Japanese and overseas performing arts companies to people in a position to present their works to the public. Companies involved in theater, music, dance performance, and other fields can advertise themselves through booth displays, actual performances, video, lectures, and other methods. Through these, they can make direct contacts with the representatives of public halls and support organizations. Thanks to this Market, it seems that more and more cases are resulting in actual public performances every year.

š"We have seen an increase in overseas performances held as a result of this Market. This is because the event takes the overseas market into perspective as well as that of Japan." (PR staff of the Market Secretariat)

š"Our purpose in participating this year was to publicize our new building. We planned it ourselves, and wanted to consider works by a variety of performing arts companies in our planning." (Shizuoka Prefecture Cultural Foundation)

š"We use showcases and videos to introduce people, with the aim of improving the environment surrounding the Japanese dance business." (Shared booth of the Preparatory Office for the Establishment of a Japan Contemporary Dance Network)

š"Our Foundation acts as a bridge between public halls and performing arts companies. We are very satisfied with the large numbers of people coming from provincial areas, thanks to the good access to the Tokyo International Forum." (Regional Creativity Foundation)

š"We are aiming for a new genre of stage performance between dance and theater, based on bodily expression. The first time we took part, we were spotted by a foreign producer and were able to arrange an overseas tour. This time, again, we've met an overseas festival producer and have been approached by a modeler, so we have felt a genuine response." (Kaitaisha Theater Company)

š"We are introducing Israeli dance companies in showcase performances. Israeli dance is gradually gaining popularity in Japan. We rarely have chances to meet representatives of provincial halls or cultural attaches of other foreign embassies, so we see this event as a really good opportunity." (Cultural Attache of the Israeli Embassy)
