54th General Convention and Lecture Meeting of
the Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Start of a new chapter in women's medicine
Sat. 6th - Tue. 9th April Hall A, B, C, others 09:00-18:00
Public Lecture only (Apr. 6th, Reception Hall, 14:30-17:00) open to the public
(admission free)
The 54th General Convention and Lecture Meeting of the Society of Obstetrics
and Gynecology, a national organization of obstetricians and gynecologists, will
be held over four days from April 6th to 9th in the Tokyo International Forum
(Halls A, B, C and elsewhere). The parent organizations of this Society were the
Japan Association of Gynecology, established in 1902, and the Association of Obstetricians
and Gynecologists, founded in 1915. In 1949, these two organizations brought their
long and glittering histories to an end with a constructive dissolution, merging
to create the new Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Including its two forerunners,
the Society therefore boasts a history of one century. Its progress mirrors the
history of development of women's medicine in Japan. But now, as the new century
gets underway, the world around us is in a state of upheaval. And the fields of
medicine and health care are no exceptions. Now, more than ever, the Society is
required to make positive efforts towards self-reform, aiming to adapt to the
trends of the new era while retaining the achievements of the past as a special
asset. At this year's General Convention and Lecture Meeting, the Society will
intensify examination and research on problems related to women's health and happiness
today, and what needs to be done in this respect. There will be a highly varied
program including lectures, a symposium, a lifelong training program, and an international
workshop.

Forests cover two-thirds of Japan's land area. They are a source of immeasurable
benefit: they preserve the land, foster water resources, conserve the natural
environment, and help to prevent global warming. But today, there is a shortage
of people working in the forestry industry to look after these forests. The aim
of "Let's Go To The Forest! National Fair 2002" will be to help people
understand or experience the excellence of forests and the attraction of living
and working in forests. At the same time, it will attempt to find new people to
work in forestry, as well as promoting the use of thinnings as a contribution
to environmental protection.

group of scientists, to consider how best to approach this situation and how to
pass the results on to society. Look forward to two days packed with knowledge
