nakata.net
cafe opens in April
A "nakata.net cafe" will open from April
19th to July 14th in the Tokyo International Forum
(A Block 2F), acting as an information station for
the forthcoming World Cup. It all started when Japanese
national player Hidetoshi Nakata expressed a simple
misgiving as to whether Japan could really provide
a proper welcome for all the 380,000 foreign fans
who will come to Japan for the tournament. The cafe
will provide a variety of information and services,
including an Internet cafe function, a business
center function, staff conversant in many languages,
and other hospitality functions. In this way, it
is hoped that foreign visitors will be helped to
understand Japan better, enjoy their stay here,
and want to come back again in future. It will certainly
enable many people to communicate more closely with
people from all over the world. This is bound to
make the World Cup an even more successful event.
Be seeing you!

400 years since
the start of the Edo Shogunate Commemorative events in
2003 (Chiyoda Ward)
The year 2003 will mark
the 400th anniversary of the founding of the Edo Shogunate
in 1603. Chiyoda Ward, in which the Tokyo International
Forum is located, has played a major part in the history
of those 400 years as a center of Japanese politics, economy,
and culture. Visitors to the Tokyo International Forum
will be familiar with the statue of Dokan Ota, responsible
for the construction of Edo Castle, standing inside the
Forum precincts. To mark the 400th anniversary, Chiyoda
Ward is planning to hold commemorative events with the
aim of sending out a message for peace and vitality to
open up the new age, through exchanges with Japan and
the rest of the world. At the same time, it will take
the chance to hold retrospectives on the culture that
has been accumulated in Edo and Tokyo since those days.
This year, meanwhile, it plans a number of pre-events
designed to raise awareness and increase preparedness
for the commemorative events.
