"Tokyo Millenario", the new festival for Tokyo, was again held at the end of last year (Dec. 24th - Jan. 1st). And, as introduced in our last issue, the "Forum Millenario Club" was again available, free of charge, as a recreational area in the Exhibition Hall of the Tokyo International Forum. The Tokyo Millenario, with Marunouchi Nakadori Avenue as its main venue, continued from the Marunouchi exit of Tokyo Station towards Yurakucho. In the Plaza of the Tokyo International Forum, close to the end point, beautiful "Scultura" sculptures of light greeted visitors who came from all over the country to get a glimpse of the Millenario. As well as the customary food service, the "Forum Millenario Club" also staged live performances by "Heaven Artists" accredited by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The event was permanently abustle with visitors taking light meals or spending a few moments of convivial relaxation.

COMMUNITY INFORMATION
Start of "Edo 400th Anniversary Events"

This year is the 400th anniversary of the start of the Edo shogunate by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1603. From that momentous year, Edo developed into a major capital that was later renamed Tokyo. To mark this special anniversary, 23 organizations (including the Tokyo Metropolitan Government) have formed an "Edo 400th Anniversary Event Promotion Committee", led by the Tokyo Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The Committee will organize 400th Anniversary Events to rediscover the proud history and culture of 400 years of Edo and Tokyo, and to create a glittering future for Tokyo in the 21st century. Throughout this anniversary year, local communities, companies and non-government groups throughout the metropolitan region, with support from the Metropolitan Government, will organize a wide variety of artistic and cultural events aimed at discovering the attractions and new potential of Tokyo. We hope the people of Tokyo will join together in supporting these efforts, which are expected to help stimulate not only the capital but also the whole of Japan.
