On the 6th of April when the cherry blossoms were at its charm, the Tokyo International Forum was filled with applause by the appearance of Luciano Pavarotti since his last visit in 2002. It was since when he last performed as the part of “The 3 Tenors”.

Luciano’s “Final Concert” Which is to end in 12th October 2005 at Modena on his 70th birthday, has started here in Japan. He will end his career after this tour ends.

The performance started with Tosti’s “Serenade”, and his famous tunes of Puccini’s “La Boheme” and Tosca’s “E lucevan le stelle” were performed. The Japanese audience gave their best applause to the bathe of the glory of him with these tunes including his encore “O Sole Mio!” With his outstanding power of expression and voice Pavarotti has shared his passion with the audience. It was a night of reaffirming his uniquity. It must have been a night for the audience which they will never forget.

The last tour of the greatest tenor of this century has started here in Japan. Mr. Terashima, the executive project organizer is the man who achieved this historical classic event in Japan, which is sure to be a new chapter of Japanese classical History. Since his achievement of Domingo's (one of the Three Tenors) concert in 1986, He has been doing the management of Domingo in the Asian region for over 20 years. He is "The Man" of this field with big success in the "Three Tenor" concerts and other that was said to be impossible to be held in Japan. We asked some stories on Pavarotti's last concert.

■The moment of history, that was able to share with the audiences.
It was a milestone of the Japanese classic music history.

"The whole work of inviting Pavarotti was a lot of hard work. Thanks to our performances and career in the past, we were asked by the agent company of Pavarotti directly to enable his Japanese tour. Since this came directly and had support from Domingo, We were finally able to accomplish this event.

Pavarotti's activities are something you can't compare to other artists. Other than his own recitals, he holds charity concerts with other artists from other music fields. So his projects are always drawn big attention. When it comes to his last concert, it requires meticulous care to bolster up the enthusiasm from its early stage.

"A great artist is a also a great egoist. Their hardships are probably the worlds greatest. That is of cause not in a bad sense but that is the very proof of being the world’s number one tenor singer Pavarotti. Genius people tend to have a bumpy rise and falls of emotions because of their sensibility. We believe that to be able to understand those feeling to the most, we should meet many people and to communicate and build experiences.

A promoter’s work is to bring out the most the artist and to lead them on to the stage in their best condition.

"The whole show works out with staffs in the back stage, audiences and Pavarotti performing. I was really moved and happy to able to be in part of this event when I saw Pavarotti giving an encore to the standing audiences. The joy of building something together with many staffs is my engine. To be able to take part as a staff in Pavarotti's final tour was a great honor and was a great pleasure.

■The Tokyo International Forum is a great hall with new possibilities.
By breaking stereo-types and chasing possibilities,I would like to bring out an opera here.

The previous concerts performed by Pavarotti were at arenas like the Tokyo Dome and the Budokan. The Tokyo performance for this time was at a concert hall of the Forum.

" The hall of Tokyo International Forum was very nice. Pavarotti himself was very much pleased with the hall. To be able to satisfy the artists is the best issue. I would like to use this hall further on but my opinion as a promoter I have to say that this hall is always fully booked. I think we need another Tokyo International Forum. The capacity of 5000 people and the location are the main attractions of Tokyo International Forum, says Mr. Terashima.

We asked Mr. Terashima some requests over the Tokyo International Forum as a producer.

"As Domingo said the sound of this hall is good after checking himself, I believe there are many possibilities in this hall if we could make the most out of it in various circumstances. Our job starts from breaking the stereotypes. Fitting people together from other fields and collaborate them is the best part of doing this job. Breaking the idea of this 5000 seated big hall not being suitable for Operas, I wish this hall can provide more in the future.

Touching the heart of the audience with producing events with top artists. Let’s wait for more fantastic events in the future.

Luciano Pavarotti
Said to be the world’s best tenor of the 20th century. Born 12th October 1935 in Modena. He made his debut in a city opera playing the part Rodolfo in “La Boheme”. With this success, he starts his career performing in operas all over Italy and overseas. His name was soon recognized all over the world, and was called “King of high C (able to sing in his second octave)”. He then pursued his career performing in other major opera titles such as “Rigolet”, “Masquerade” and “Tosca”. Other than operas, he did concerts in Hyde park London in 1991 and in Central park New York in 1993 which both recorded over 200000 and 500000 audiences. He is well known by his unique collaborations with artists from the rock and pops fields which is a charity project called “Pavarotti and Friends” that started in 1990 to save children in difficult circumstances. This concert will be the start of his final world tour that will end on his 70th birthday.

Tadao Terashima
CEO of Pacific Music Enterprise San Francisco. Worked with various top artists as a producer. His main producing was the “Three Tenors” which is one of the most famous classic concerts performed by Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras. Took charge of all management of Domingo in his Asian activities and performances. His present work is a joint concert of Domingo with the opera’s most representative sopranist Mirella Freni that is to start from this December. His high aimed quality of producing has succeeded in many projects.
