The LA FOLLE JOURNEE au JAPON season will soon arrive. From its beginning in Nantes, Bilbao, and Lisbon the season continues in Tokyo. Recently, Ms. Eriko Nakamura visited Nantes. Her parents manage “Ginza Jujiya”, a musical instrument store, but Ms. Nakamura told me that she had never positively enjoyed classical music. Yet during her Nantes experience, she became completely enthralled with classical music.

After graduation from Rikkyo University, Ms. Nakamura joined Fuji Television Network, Inc. At Fuji Television, she was in charge of such TV programs as “Do-natteruno?” and “Cult Q” as a broadcaster. After leaving Fuji Television in 1999, she became a freelance broadcaster. Until now, Ms. Nakamura has been involved in program narration, etc. Recently, she moved to Paris. Kodansha Ltd. published her book “Eriko Royal.”

“Our goal is to make the Tokyo International Forum an island of musical excellence, where people will hear outstanding music in any hall, any passage, and any plaza.”- Rene Martin, the artistic director of LA FOLLE JOURNEE au JAPON discussed his goal when he first came to the Tokyo International Forum. The cover page illustration reflects the image of the Tokyo International Forum, a transformation to an island of musical excellence. Mr. Jiri Votruba, an international painter, illustrator and graphic designer based in Prague, illustrated the cover. His artistic work is varied and includes a football team logo and the official poster of the Czech Republic Building for EXPO 2005 AICHI. His graphics in the Mozart Museum in Salzburg and the classical music-related works such as the musicians’ portraits reflect his passion for music.
In the near future, the Tokyo International Forum will become “an island of music.”
